National Aerospace University – "Kharkiv Aviation Institute"


National Aerospace University – "Kharkiv Aviation Institute", abbreviated as "KhAI" is a university in Ukraine which specializes in aviation and space engineering. It is the leading educational institution in the public education system of Ukraine. The university was founded in the year 1930, making it one of the oldest universities in Kharkiv.



Over the years, the University has trained more than 53 thousand engineers. Currently, the university has enrolled more than 7000 students.

Over 1400 International students from 45 countries of Asia, Africa and America are trained annually at the University. Courses are offered in both Ukrainian and English languages.



National Aerospace University is a member of the International Association of Universities (IAU), UNESCO, the European association of aviation scientists (EASN), European aviation partnership of universities PEGASUS. In 2010 the university joined the Great Charter of Universities (Magna Charta Universitatum), and in 2011 it joined the International Association of technical universities of the CIS. The courses of the university are recognized all over the world.


Kharkiv also known as Kharkov is the second-largest city in Ukraine with an approximate population of 2,139,036.

The climate is humid continental with an average temperature of 26.4 °C during summers and -7 °C. It has relatively long and cold winters.

It is a major cultural, scientific, educational, transport and industrial center of Ukraine, with numerous museums, theatres, and libraries.

Among the specialists working in the aviation/space industry of Ukraine, 80% are KhAI alumni.

The University’s staff includes seven hundred teachers, among them more than 400 are professors and PhDs. The esteemed staff of the university includes 1 winner of the Lenin Prize of the USSR, 25 winners of the State Prize of Ukraine and 11 winners of the Council of Ministers of the USSR.

Inventions patented by the university scientists is in use in more than 20 countries worldwide


The KhAI covers a separate territory of the city, covering about twenty-five hectares in the forest zone. The University has 8 academic buildings, research institute, and laboratories, rich library, sports complex, swimming pool, dispensary, dining halls, bank, gardens, etc
